Discussing My Hypothesis

First, I would like to start off by discussing the fact that I skipped two weeks of writing blogs. This was because of the pressure of having many deadlines. These deadlines were so tense for me to keep up with writing blogs. During the past two weeks, I have not slept enough as I spent most of the nights working on the upcoming deadlines. Writing this blog is also difficult for me to spare time for it. This is because more deadlines are coming and more pressure is coming up in the coming weeks as all assignments have close deadlines and it’s going to be hard to manage all assignments simultaneously.

Furthermore, my hypothesis is now decided and was discussed and confirmed with the tutor. The hypothesis is about improving literate environments such as public libraries in Malta. My idea about this is to improve the layout of public libraries in Malta. This is since most of the layouts in Malta are boring and has no activities going on, apart from having a library for the sake of lending books. My way forward and possible solution is to have a space that provides different activities for different age groups. I would like to see the idea of reading off a book back again. Also, having a space that has an innovative system of borrowing books, which will lead to increase the use of physical book. Adapting a space for a library is needed and till now we do not have improvements in government systems.

The Hypothesis

At the moment, I’m finding myself confused on what my hypothesis should be really about. It’s a bit challenging to determine a specific topic to have strong arguments. Having lots of assignments’ work to do, and many deadlines are coming up, makes it difficult for me to think about such important thing.

Posting a blog per week helps me keep myself updated and improve my critical thinking. However sometimes I find it difficult to write a blog as it’s almost impossible to find the time to do so. To be honest, sometimes I couldn’t find the right words to express what’s in my mind and that also effect my writing quality in my blogs.

Moreover, the topic of my hypothesis will probably be related to the library. As already mentioned in previous blogs, libraries are being overlooked nowadays especially in Malta. People seems to avoid using the library nowadays as they are preferring to use technology which inevitably is taking over books. From own observations, Malta’s public libraries seem to be put aside when it comes to maintenance and book updates. I’m also finding different case studies to let myself explore what’s already in existence and what are the real needs related with the education of the public. One of the main things I would like to find out with my research is to create a project that encourages people to read, aiming also for children of a very young age, as to have them develop a habit of reading.

In order to achieve and brainstorm the topic of my hypothesis for my dissertation, I’m also trying to have meetings with different lecturers to have different opinions and ideas about the hypothesis.
